Hypnagogic Hallucinations/Hypnagogia Diptych in Acrylic/Oil 300x250cm
This is a diptych that Ive painted with focus on the self-experienced state of mind that occurs sometimes between sleep and consciousness. It portraits several sleeping figures surrounded by more or less diffuse and hallucinatory objects.
This work is the start of a theme project and a visual research about psychological and neurological phenomenons connected to sleep, which I can relate to through my own experiences.
Hypna comes from Hypnos, which is the god of sleep in Greek mythology. Agoga comes from Agnogeus, which means leader.
There is a state in this borderline where one can experience a sort of presence, and be struck by panic and fear, or get the feeling of slowly gliding up the wall. This state can be experienced in many different ways, but most of the time it consists of impressions and illusions during the moment you fall asleep.
